A Clearing Gm-34800001
Ref:
Charles Angrand (French, 1854–1926) The drawing represents a clearing surrounded by trees. The site's location is not identified. Using the greasy medium of Conté crayon, Angrand had created a subtle tonal image. By stumping the medium extensively, he has achieved a soft atmosphere where forms are suggested rather than precisely defined. Using the contrast between the areas of paper left in reserve and those where he has applied Conté crayon, Angrand creates a mysterious landscape that is bathed in a poetic light.
