A decorative punchmarked \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 1596, event);\"\u003ehalo\u003c\/span\u003e, made by lightly tapping metal \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 937, event);\"\u003epunches\u003c\/span\u003e onto a gold \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 539, event);\"\u003ebackground\u003c\/span\u003e with a hammer, surrounds the saint's head. \u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e The \u003ci\u003e Saint Luke \u003c\/i\u003e panel was probably one section of a five-part, portable \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 381, event);\"\u003epolyptych\u003c\/span\u003e. The panels were attached to one another by leather straps and could be folded up and carried. The back and sides of the Saint Luke panel were painted to resemble \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 622, event);\"\u003eporphyry\u003c\/span\u003e. When the polyptych was folded up, it resembled a stack of purple stone tablets. \u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Simone Martini was famous for his graceful, refined \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 1204, event);\"\u003ecompositions\u003c\/span\u003e.
