Although in this drawing he has created a natural-looking scene, many of his drawings are not topographical and he often used interchangeable \u003cspan class=\"text-link\" onclick=\"javascript:link(84, 1232, event);\"\u003emotifs\u003c\/span\u003e. These fantastic, vaguely Central European views reflect the influence of Roelandt Savery's rugged, fictitious mountain landscapes, such as Savery's \u003ci\u003e Landscape with Waterfall \u003c\/i\u003e, created about thirty years earlier than Saftleven's drawing.  \u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e At a time when travel was difficult, landscape drawings and prints gave people both a means and an excuse to conjure up exotic, far-flung lands.
