In the book, Gabriel Huquier's \u003ci\u003eThéâtre italien\u003c\/i\u003e, the scene is identified as \"\u003ci\u003eArlequin grapignant\u003c\/i\u003e,\" or \"Harlequin as Procurer.\"  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The drawing is characteristic of \u003ci\u003ecommedia dell'arte's\u003c\/i\u003e tendency to satirize human folly and pretense.
